Village Roadshow to Pay Warner Bros. $57 Million Before Bankruptcy
A court initially assessed Village Roadshow's debt at over $125 million.
The production company Village Roadshow, known for films like "The Matrix" and "Joker," has agreed to pay Warner Bros. $57 million to settle a dispute over the financing of "The Matrix: Resurrections."
The conflict between Village Roadshow and Warner Bros. stemmed from a co-financing agreement for "The Matrix 4." In 2023, the court ruled that Village Roadshow breached the agreement and owed Warner Bros. $107 million plus interest, totaling $125 million.

Village Roadshow accused Warner Bros. of breaching the contract by simultaneously releasing the new "Matrix" in theaters and on HBO Max, as well as engaging in unfair competition.

As a result of years of collaboration with Warner Bros., Village Roadshow damaged its relationship with the partner and was forced to file for bankruptcy. Warner Bros. demanded the full $125 million, but the amount has now been reduced by more than half.
It was expected that Village Roadshow would pay Warner Bros. the full amount by May 6. As of now, the companies have not reported whether the payment has been made and whether the dispute has been resolved.
