FBI Files Reveal Nazis Developed UFOs in the 1940s
The Pentagon has begun releasing files on UFOs, also known as "unidentified anomalous phenomena".
A new website showcasing these documents features a retro design: it includes black-and-white military photographs of flying objects, with text typed in a font resembling a typewriter.
The first batch contains 162 published files from 1948 to 2026, including 120 PDF files, 28 videos, and 14 images from agencies such as the Department of Defense, FBI, NASA, and the State Department.
The documents released on Friday include mentions of a supposed flying craft resembling a UFO developed by the Nazis.
Disc-Shaped Remote-Controlled Aircraft
During World War II, the Nazis invested heavily in developing new weapon technologies, including so-called wonder weapons aimed at turning the tide of the war in Germany's favor.
However, this weaponry was ultimately not produced in sufficient quantities to decisively impact the course of the war, despite the regime's significant efforts.
The FBI documents state that a certain Paul Peyerl provided information indicating that the Nazis built this flying craft in the Schwarzwald in 1944.
The document notes that he observed the described flying craft, which had a disc shape, approximately 6.4 meters in diameter, was remotely controlled, and equipped with several jet engines mounted on the exterior. It also described how the outer part rotated around a central dome that remained stationary.
Peyerl's task was to photograph the object in flight. He claimed to have preserved a photo negative taken from an altitude of 7,000 meters. A photocopy of this negative is included on the last page of the document, along with a photograph he reportedly took "at the risk of his life," showing the object in a hangar.

According to Peyerl, the described aircraft was designed and built by a German engineer named Kuer, whose whereabouts were unknown to him. He suspected that Kuer had been arrested by the Allies after the fighting ended. Peyerl also stated that Kuer had previously unsuccessfully tried to avoid conscription into the German Wehrmacht but was arrested by the Gestapo.
The FBI documents explicitly state that they contain "no recommendations or conclusions" from the federal agency, making it nearly impossible to assess whether the so-called Nazi UFO actually existed.
However, as reported by FOX News, it is undeniable that the Nazis developed several remarkable examples of weaponry and technology for their time, including the V-2 rocket and the Messerschmitt Me 262 aircraft, which were considered technological breakthroughs in the 1940s.
As part of Operation Paperclip, the U.S. also recruited several leading German scientists and engineers to utilize their expertise during the Cold War.
The documents released on Friday also contain significantly more recent sightings.
These documents include internal military memos reporting a "possible small UFO" in Iraq in 2022, as well as "numerous flashes of light or light phenomena of unknown origin" allegedly observed in Syria in 2024. During this period, U.S. forces were deployed in Iraq and Syria as part of operations against the so-called "Islamic State".
There are also more recent reports concerning American soldiers in the United Arab Emirates and Greece.
Many documents are partially redacted to protect personal information and locations. Some members of the U.S. Congress are calling for broader disclosure of information.
