Hugh Jackman Discusses His Transformation for the Role of Robin Hood
The actor wanted this character to differ from anything he has done before.
In an interview, Hugh Jackman shared his transformation for the role of the aging Prince of Thieves in the new historical drama "The Death of Robin Hood".
He aimed to create a character that would shake up perceptions of Robin and be radically different from his previous appearances.
Hairstylist Sean Flanigan and makeup artist Pamela Westmore designed the look of the aging hermit with long gray hair and a thick beard.
"We were sitting in the trailer, waiting for the shoot to start, brainstorming ideas. Sean showed a photo of a guy with slicked-back gray hair, and they started working on it," Jackman shared.

"We needed to create something that would make me look completely different, and this look fit perfectly." Director Michael Sarnozki noted that the created look allowed Robin to visually change throughout the story.
At the beginning of the film, Robin appears as a wild cave dweller, then transforms into a composed warrior, and closer to the end, he adopts a more elegant appearance.
Jackman maintained good physical shape but changed his training approach, opting for a leaner physique instead of the superhero bulk of Wolverine.

However, the filming proved challenging. Jackman admitted that long takes in deep mud left the actors completely exhausted, but this fatigue helped convey the "intimacy of violence" and make the fight scenes as realistic as possible.
The intimacy of violence is a theme that runs throughout the film. In all manifestations of violence and killings on screen, we aimed to show this deep closeness.
The film is set to release on June 19, 2026.
