Each year, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) evaluates living conditions in major cities, publishing the Global Liveability Index.
This comparison combines city ratings to show how livability varies among the seven largest regions in the world in 2026.
The data for visualization comes from the EIU's Global Liveability Index, which assesses stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure, calculating average regional scores on a scale from 0 to 100.

In 2026, Western Europe emerged as the most livable region, scoring 92 points. North America closely followed with 90 points. Both regions received high marks for healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
Asia showed significant improvement, with an average score rising to 74 points, driven by higher ratings for cities in China and Japan. However, Asia still lags behind Western Europe and North America.
The Middle East and North Africa experienced the most significant decline, with an average score dropping by one point to 61 due to the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel, and their allies against Iran.
Sub-Saharan Africa ranked last with a score of 55 points, receiving the lowest ratings for healthcare, infrastructure, and stability.
Latin America and Eastern Europe landed in the middle of the ranking, achieving relatively high scores in education but lower stability ratings prevented them from rising higher.
