Heatwave with temperatures up to 40 °C expected in Central Europe
A new heatwave is caused by a stable anticyclone bringing warm air masses from southern regions to Central Europe. Particularly high temperatures are expected along the Rhine, as well as in parts of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
In northern and northeastern Germany, Sunday will still be bearable with around 20 degrees, while the south will experience nearly 30 degrees. Strong thunderstorms are also possible in the southern and central parts of Germany.
On Monday, despite the risk of thunderstorms, most areas will see truly hot weather: temperatures will not drop below 30 degrees. This is due to hot air masses currently concentrated over Southeastern Europe, with the epicenter of the heat in Hungary.

On Tuesday, the heat will hit hard: particularly in the upper Rhine region and parts of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, thermometers could reach 40 degrees.
In Berlin and Hamburg, temperatures are expected to range from 30 to 34 degrees, but the cooler air from the North Sea will keep the heat load relatively moderate. According to meteorologist Dominik Jung, the heat in the north will not last long: noticeable cooling is expected by Wednesday.
South and Southwest will sweat the most
In the south and southwest, the heat will be persistent and is likely to last until the end of the week.
Extreme temperatures are also affecting rivers. Strong thunderstorms occurring during this period will mainly bring only local precipitation. Such rain is unlikely to significantly affect water levels.
At least until August 9, no significant changes in the weather are expected: typical summer heat will persist, with very hot conditions in the south and thunderstorms in some areas across the country.
