Sage's Risky Plan: How 'The Boys' Are Betting Everything
The latest episode of 'The Boys' marks a significant turning point for the final season. In the episode 'Though the Heavens Fall', Homelander becomes even more dangerous, and the main characters find themselves in a critical situation.
The plot centers around the last vial of the V-1 serum: The Boys are trying to obtain it before Homelander does, but they fail. The main mistake is Sister Sage's bet on Soldier Boy.
Joining The Boys, she assures the team that Soldier Boy will not give the serum to Homelander. Sage believes that Soldier Boy hates his son too much, but the episode's finale proves otherwise: it is Soldier Boy who hands V-1 to Homelander.

This twist is particularly important for Sage's storyline. The series has long portrayed her as the smartest superhero capable of manipulating people, but the sixth episode highlights her weakness: Sage overestimates her ability to predict others' behavior.
She considers people predictable, but underestimates Soldier Boy's internal conflicts. Hatred for Homelander is not the only factor; Soldier Boy's love for Clara Voight and his complicated relationship with his own son also influence his decisions.

At first glance, it seems that Sage either does not know all the circumstances or considers them insignificant. As a result, her strategy collapses at the most dangerous moment.

The episode leaves room for another interpretation of events. Some details seem too deliberate to be coincidental: for example, Sage leaves a Taco Bell receipt in The Boys' hideout, which seems strange for a character with her intellect.
Moreover, she already knows that Soldier Boy's attitude towards Homelander is changing, yet she insists on her plan, assuring that Soldier Boy will not give V-1 to his wayward son.
Perhaps obtaining V-1 by Homelander is just part of a larger game that Sage has in mind, which is not entirely what she tells Ashley and The Boys. If so, it remains to be seen whose side Sage is really on.
But there is another possibility: perhaps the writers of 'The Boys' did not plan anything complex and attributed Sage's mistake simply to showcase a more powerful Homelander.

The next — penultimate — episode of 'The Boys' will be released on May 13.
