Spanish Football Federation Supports Reproductive Health for Female Athletes
Players of the Spanish women's national football team, including futsal players, as well as referees and officials from the federation will have access to egg freezing, IVF, egg donation, and genetic testing, announced the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
This initiative aims to give women working in RFEF more freedom regarding motherhood. The national women's team won the FIFA World Cup in 2023.
RFEF President Rafael Lozano stated, "If Spain and its teams are the best in the world on the field, they should also excel in balancing work and personal life."

The agreement, effective until spring 2029, provides access to resources for reproductive, physical, and mental health, as emphasized by RFEF women's football director Reyes Belver, who noted that the goal is to "enhance and strengthen" support for female athletes.
Access to procedures like egg freezing, IVF, and genetic testing will allow athletes to make more informed decisions with "less pressure," said referee Alicia Espinosa.
The federation has partnered with Tambre, a network of reproductive health clinics, which will provide reliable medical information and specialized support so that all athletes can freely decide when to become mothers.
This initiative complements other measures previously introduced by the federation to improve work-life balance, including conditions for players with children during national team tournaments.
