Judo Returns to Budapest: Highlights from the First Day of the Grand Slam
The World Judo Tour has returned to Budapest. Athletes from 67 countries provided an exciting first day of the Hungary Grand Slam 2026.
In the final of the women's 48 kg category, Kristina Dudina faced Sabina Gilyazova. Gilyazova emerged victorious in the golden score and claimed the gold medal.
The medals were presented by IOC member Mustafa Berraf.
18-year-old Izhak Ashpiz reached the final block of the Grand Slam for the third consecutive time in the men's 60 kg category. His well-executed ura-nage earned him his second Grand Slam gold.

In the women's 52 kg final, Polish athlete Barbara Tvarowska faced Spain's Ayumi Leyva Sanchez. Leyva Sanchez scored a yuko and secured her first Grand Slam gold.

Bulgaria's Boyan Yotov was unstoppable throughout the day and maintained his momentum in the men's 66 kg final. Already having a waza-ari, Yotov executed a spectacular throw to finish the match with an ippon, winning gold.

In the women's 57 kg final, Japanese athlete Haruka Funakubo, a silver medalist at the 2023 World Championships, secured gold with a clean yuko and controlled the match on the ground.
