Minecraft's Wilderness Bound Update: Explore New Features and Biomes
Players can now explore abandoned camps and craft straw beds.
Mojang has completed testing the Wilderness Bound update for Minecraft and released it. This is the third major update of 2026, available as patch 26.3 for Minecraft Java and patch 26.50 for Minecraft Bedrock.
Main Changes in the Minecraft Wilderness Bound Update
The most notable addition is the new biome, the Spotted Forest. It features poplar trees with red, orange, and yellow leaves, along with fallen logs; only peaceful mobs spawn in the Spotted Forest.
Each type of poplar has its own falling leaf particles. Poplar saplings randomly transform into one of three tree variants when grown.
The new biome also features shelf mushrooms in two sizes: the small ones can be enlarged with bone meal, while the large ones yield two mushrooms when broken. These mushrooms can be used for cooking stews.

Additionally, the mushrooms have a slight bounce: living creatures bounce off the surface as if it were a bed, accompanied by a distinct sound effect.
Another unique element of the Spotted Forest is the red shrubs. They generate in small groups, are suitable for composting, and can be propagated using bone meal if there is suitable free space nearby.

Abandoned camps with tents and treasures now generate in the Spotted Forest and other forest biomes, such as taiga and birch forests. In these camps, players can find explorer maps leading to other camps, as well as maps leading to temples and other interesting locations.
The Wilderness Bound update also introduced cushions: they can be placed on any flat surface, allowing players to sit for the first time in Minecraft. There are 16 colors available, and crafting one cushion requires three wool slabs of the same shade.

Additionally, developers introduced straw beds: these can be crafted from several hay bales and break upon first use. Players cannot sleep on these beds in The End and The Nether.
Technical changes in Wilderness Bound include various optimizations — for example, mobs will no longer move randomly if there are no players nearby. The old Improved Transparency implementation has been replaced with a new transparency algorithm that does not depend on the rendering order.
Moreover, Mojang has improved performance in structure searching and accelerated chunk generation.
