Renowned Playwright Bonnie Greer Passes Away at 77
American-British playwright and author Bonnie Greer has passed away at the age of 77.
Her husband, David Hutchins, announced her death, stating: “With deep sorrow, I announce that my beloved wife, Bonnie Greer, has died after a brief illness.”
“Bonnie was a recognized playwright and author whose intellect and courage made a significant impact on the cultural life of the UK.”
Hutchins added: “For me, she was a partner and a source of inspiration. Bonnie's close circle will remember her warmth and her remarkable ability to bring people together.”

Born in Chicago in 1948, Greer moved to the UK in 1986. She became a well-known figure on British television, including as a participant in the discussion programs Newsnight and Question Time.
Greer received the Verity Bargate Award for Best Play for “Munda Negra” and authored novels such as “Hanging By Her Teeth” and “Entropy.”
Among her other works are the biography “Langston Hughes: The Value Of Contradiction” and the play “Marilyn And Ella” about actress Marilyn Monroe and singer Ella Fitzgerald.
In 2005, Greer joined the board of trustees of the British Museum and later became its deputy chair. She also served on the boards of the London Film School and the Royal Opera House.
In 2010, Greer was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her services to the arts.
