Hackers Posing as Government Officials Target Revolut Customers
Hundreds of customers of the digital bank Revolut lost their personal data due to a fraudulent scheme where hackers posed as government officials.
The company reported a "complex external fraud scheme with identity theft," where an unauthorized third party used an email address from a real government agency to request customer information.
According to the Financial Times, Italian hackers used a compromised email address from a government agency, pretending to be officials.
The attackers accessed customer addresses, verification photos, identity documents, and Bitcoin activity information.

About 680 Revolut customers across several European countries were affected. Despite the incident, the company’s systems remained secure, and affected customers have already been contacted for support.
“As soon as we discovered the incident, we immediately blocked the address and notified the relevant authorities,” the company stated.
The UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) confirmed it received a report of the incident and is currently assessing the information provided.
European Fintech Unicorn
The incident occurred amid Revolut's ongoing expansion in the global banking market, more than a decade after the company was founded in 2015.
In July, the company was valued at $115 billion. In March, Revolut received a long-awaited banking license in the UK, and in August, it obtained a full banking license in France.
Now, Revolut has over 80 million customers worldwide and aims to reach 100 million customers in 100 countries.
